Fiscalia Ambiental de Costa Rica

La Fiscalía Ambiental recibe cada año entre 1.700 y 2.000 denuncias por aparentes delitos ambientales. Según Hernández, con esta campaña se pretende evidenciar que las personas que dañan el ambiente en Costa Rica lo están haciendo con alguna finalidad económica y trasladan a la colectividad los costos de un ambiente degradado.

“La idea es que la gente se identifique con el ambiente, que lo vea como un patrimonio, que no lo vea como algo ajeno cuyo daño no lo va a afectar; sino más bien que vean la naturaleza como un patrimonio de todas y todos que debemos proteger si queremos asegurar calidad de vida para sí y para las futuras generaciones”, manifestó.

Alejandro Alpízar Arrones, fiscal coordinador de la Fiscalía Ambiental, señaló que, sin la participación ciudadana, ningún proceso puede tener éxito.

“Queremos hacer hincapié a las personas en que denunciar es indispensable, estamos notando en nuestras estadísticas que no hay tanta denuncia ciudadana, sino que estas vienen desde el propio Ministerio Público y de otras instituciones públicas que se encargan de investigar estos delitos, pero sabemos que la ciudadanía sí tiene conocimiento de que se dan conductas delictivas. En ocasiones, la gente no denuncia por desconocimiento sobre lo que es delito, o por miedo o por falta de confianza, pero yo les invito a que no desistan y que presenten denuncias, incluso de manera confidencial”, afirmó Alpízar.

De acuerdo con la Fiscalía, las infracciones a la Ley Forestal, específicamente los delitos de tala ilegal, son los más frecuentes en Costa Rica, con la consecuencia de que estos siempre están asociados a otro tipo de conductas de igual gravedad.

El fiscal adjunto ambiental, Luis Diego Hernández, señaló que, con esta campaña, también se apuesta por la educación ambiental, porque existen malas prácticas alrededor de la vida silvestre, por ejemplo, la “mascotización” de animales, como loras, que causan daños irreparables al ambiente.

“En ese sentido, tratamos de enfatizar que en la naturaleza existe una interacción entre sus diversos componentes, de ahí que un daño a un bosque puede afectar la supervivencia de una especie de fauna y viceversa, que afectar las márgenes de los ríos puede generar deslizamientos o cabezas de agua con graves consecuencias para la vida humana”, enfatizó Hernández.
