Puntos característicos de las huellas digitales
Sistema de identificación dactiloscópico de Edward Henry

Los puntos característicos de las huellas digitales, son las singularidades papilares existentes en cada individuo. La importancia de conocer estos puntos característicos, radica en que estos hacen posible comparar unas huellas con otras y de esa forma identificar si esas huellas corresponden a una determinada persona.

En el año 1899, se presentó el sistema de identificación dactiloscópico de Edward Henry, y debemos saber que hasta la fecha todos los sistemas dactiloscópicos existentes, son variantes de los sistemas Vucetich y Henry-Galton.

En 1900, Edward Richard Henry publicó en Inglaterra su libro “Classification and Uses of Finger Prints”, donde se recoge su sistema de identificación dactiloscópico basado en 4 tipos de dactilograma:

Arcos
Presillas
Verticilos
Compuestos
Scotland Yard adopta oficialmente en el año 1901, el sistema dactiloscópico de Henry, quien también es designado Jefe de la Policía Metropolitana de Londres, de 1903 a 1918.

Puntos característicos de las huellas digitales conforme al sistema Henry

El citado autor expone que los ocho puntos característicos de las huellas digitales son:

Bifurcación: Línea que en algún punto de su camino se divide o se bifurca, formando un angulo más o menos agudo.
Cortada o interrupción: Línea discontinua, que a lo largo de su recorrido se interrumpe en una o varias ocasiones.
Empalme: Entre dos líneas que van en paralelo, existe otra que las une en diagonal.
Ojal o encierro: Es la unión de 2 líneas, las cuales forman un círculo en medio de las crestas.
Extremo de línea: Línea que queda interrumpida en uno de sus extremos o en los dos, sin que exista continuidad.
Horquilla: Línea que se une a otra pero sin formar un ángulo.
Islote: Línea que es un poco más grande que el punto, formada por 2 o más puntos.
Punto: Como su nombre indica es un punto, y es lo mas pequeño que es posible encontrar en la cresta papilar.
