DEFINICIONES DE LA CRIMINOLOGÍA
La palabra Criminología deriva del latín criminis y del griego logos, que significa el tratado o estudio del crimen. Las definiciones, incumbencias, divisiones y alcances de esta Ciencia, fueron variando de acuerdo a los distintos autores, Criminólogos y lugar geográfico, según los diversos enfoques y encuadres teóricos, como asimismo de acuerdo a la época en las que fueron expresadas.
El mencionado termino “Criminología” fue expresado por primera vez por el antropólogo Francés PABLO TOPINNARD a fines del año 1.883.
Según Rafael GARÓFALO, a fines de 1.885, la Criminología es la ciencia del delito. GARÓFALO la definió como la ciencia general de la criminalidad y de las penas, y a su vez edita un primer libro llamado precisamente Criminología.
VONT LISZT como MEZGER definen la Criminología como la ciencia que tiene por objeto de indagación, la etiología criminal.
QUINTANILLA SALDAÑA en el año 1.929 definió la Criminología como la ciencia del crimen o estudio científico de la criminalidad, sus causas y medios para combatirla.
En 1.940 ABRAHAMSEN expresa que la Criminología permite la investigación a través de la etiología del delito, buscando tratar de curar al delincuente y previniendo la conducta criminal.
HURWITZ en 1.945 señala que la Criminología estudia los factores individuales y sociales que fundamentan la conducta delictual.
RENE RESTEN refiere que la Criminología es la aplicación de la Antropología diferencial al delito, de los factores criminógenos de origen biológico, fisiológico, psicológico y sociológico.
Para GUNTHER KAISER la Criminología es la ciencia que estudia al delito.
HANS GOPPINGER refiere que la Criminología es la ciencia empírica e interdisciplinaria, relacionada con el surgimiento, la comisión y la evitación del crimen.
GARCIA PABLOS DE MOLINA, define la Criminología como la ciencia empírica e interdisciplinaria que se ocupa del crimen, del delincuente, la víctima y del control social del comportamiento desviado.
ALFONSO QUIROZ considera a la Criminología como la ciencia sintética, causal explicativa, natural y cultural de las conductas antisociales.
LUIS MARCÓ DEL PONT señala que la Criminología es un poderoso instrumento para la prevención de los delitos y de las conductas desviadas dentro de un adecuado marco político criminal.
Según JOSÉ INGENIEROS la Criminología es la ciencia multidisciplinaria que estudia la conducta humana peligrosa, constituya delito o no, tanto de los casos en forma individual como de los fenómenos de masa.
